Child Exploitation
The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner has published a new report looking at the risks that could shape the prevalence and nature of modern slavery and human trafficking (MSHT) through to 2036. The study involved an evidence review, surveys and a series of workshops with participants from across various sectors and individuals with lived experience. Findings include that the exploitation of children and young people by organised criminal networks is likely to become an increasingly severe MSHT risk, and that safeguarding and enforcement systems remain a critical strategic vulnerability in the UK. The Commissioner sets out an action plan which includes ensuring that people who have been exploited are not criminalised for offences committed as a result of their exploitation, and that children receive specialist care.
